The commander of the Finnish army during the WW II was Marshal Carl Gustav Emil Mannerheim. Marshal Mannerheim was known as an eager hunter and had been interested when General Major Erkki Raappana had mentioned about the elks on the section of the 14th division of the Finnish army. This interest aroused an idea of building a hunting lodge as a present for the 75th birthday of the marshal. The lodge was built according to the drawings of architect Eino Pitkänen in Keihäsniemi by the lake Lieksajärvi. Sauna and a fisherman's cottage were built near the hunting lodge in 1943. By the end of the war the lodge was dismantled and evacuated to Finland. It was rebuilt in 1945 on the land marshal had bought by the lake Punelia. Mannerheim donated the lodge to the Finnish Hunting Society in the beginning of 1948. From the year 1959 the lodge has been open for tourists (open only in summer). Innokkaana metsästäjänä tunnettu Marsalkka Mannerheim osoitti jatkosodan aikana suurta kiinnostusta kenraalimajuri Erkki Raappanan mainintaan 14.D:n lohkolla Itä-Karjalassa esiintyvistä hirvistä, ja tästä syntyi idea lahjoittaa marsalkalle 75-vuotislahjaksi metsästysmaja. Se rakennettiin arkkitehti Eino Pitkäsen piirustusten mukaan Lieksajärven Keihäsniemeen v. 1942. Hirsisen majan lähelle rakennettiin sauna ja vuonna 1943 kalamaja. Jatkosodan loppuvaiheessa maja purettiin ja evakuoitiin Suomeen. Se pystytettiin marsalkan vuonna 1945 Lopelta hankkimalle maapalstalle Puneliajärven rannalle. Mannerheim lahjoitti sen vuoden 1948 alussa Suomen Yleiselle Metsästäjäliitolle. Vuodesta 1959 maja on ollut matkailunähtävyytenä (avoinna vain kesäisin).
