Jyrhämäjärven rannalla Rovaniemen maalaiskylässä on pysty siirtolohkare. Se seisoo kiilamaisena keskellä mäntymetsää, ja sitä ympäröi pienempien kivien kenttä. Nimitys Somosen kirkko on oikeutettu, sillä siirtolohkareen sivulla on puinen risti, ja kivikkokentän varaan on rakennettu puisia penkkejä. Paikalla on myös soitettava kello. Paikan nimi johtuu kansansaarnaajasta Somosesta, joka 1800-luvun alkupuolella saarnasi siirtolohkareen laella. Tarina Somosesta jäi elämään, ja 1950-luvulla paikalla alettiin pitää heinäkuussa jumalanpalvelus. Tapa jatkuu yhä.
Somosen kirkolle on Rovaniemeltä noin 20 kilometriä. Posiontieltä käännytään maantie 9448:lle; matkaa lohkareelle on kilometrin verran. Lohkareen sijainti metsässä on merkitty pienellä viitalla.
On the shore of lake Jyrhämäjärvi in county of Rovaniemi there is a big upfront rock boulder. It stands in the middle of pine forest and it is surrounded by a field of smaller boulders. The name 'The Church of Somonen' is justified because there is a wooden cross on the side of the big boulder and there are some wooden benches around the boulder. There is also a church bell. The name of this place refers to a preacher called Somonen, who preached on the top of this big boulder in the beginning of the 19th century. The story of the preacher Somonen stayed alive and in the 1950's the local parish started a tradition to hold a holy mass in the Church of Somonen in every July. This tradition is still active.
The distance from the city of Rovaniemi to the Church of Somonen is about 20 kilometres. Fron the main road to Posio and Kuusamo there is a turn to a minor road number 9448. Then it is only 1 km's drive and then there is a sign 'Somosen kirkko' on the side of the road. The boulder is located very near the road.
