Ranskalainen tutkimusryhmä tutki Tornionjokilaakson kolmiomittauksella maapallon litistymistä navoilta. Tämän historiallisen tapahtuman ensimmäinen kohde oli Tornion kirkon kellotapuli, joka sijaitsee kätkön lähellä. Tutkimusryhmän suomalaisen tähtitietelijätulkin Anders Hellantin muistomerkki sijaitsee kirkon kaakkoiskulmalla.
Koordinaatit johtavat Maupertuis-puistoon, jossa on erikoisen muotoinen muistomerkki. Etsi muistomerkin henkilökuvapuolelta viimeinen kasvokuvan oikealla puolella oleva vuosiluku. Kätkö sijaitsee paikassa N 65° 51.0jj' E024° 08.kkk', missä jj on vuosiluku-1618 ja kkk vuosiluku-1031.
De Maupertuis I on lomakätkö, jota huoltaa tarvittaessa polarit. Kätkö on ensimmäinen Tornion kunnan alueelle piilotettu geocache. Keltakantinen pakasterasia näkyy kiviaidasta. Sen saa esiin helposti oikealla tekniikalla (nostamalla laatikon ylläolevaa kiveä vasten vetämällä samalla ulospäin) ilman voimankäyttöä esiin. Sivullisten katseilta suojaa vain kaksi pienehköä irtokiveä.
The degree measurements by de Maupertuis in the Tornionjokilaakso River Valley 1736-1737
The french expedition perused the earth's flattening on its poles by a geological survey in Tornionjokilaakso river valley. The first target of this historical trip was the belfry of the church, which is situated near to the above coordinates. The monument of the finnish astronomer-interpreter Anders Hellant is situated in the southeast corner of the church.
The coordinates lead to the Maupertuis-puisto park. There is an extraordinary shaped sculpture. Find the face side of it. The last year on the right side of the head is the hint You need to solve the final location. The cache is located at N 65° 51.0jj' E024° 08.kkk', where jj is the year-1618 and kkk year-1031.
De Maupertuis I is a holiday cache maintained by polarit where necessary. This geocache is the first placed in Tornio (Torneå) district. The yellow lid of the cache container stands out from the stone wall. You don't need to use force, just lift the box upwards at the same time when pulling it. There are just two tiny loose rocks covering the hiding place from outsiders.
