Geocache Description:

This cache is to celebrate Cuckoo Bottom, a lovely spot on the South Downs, surrounded by the Lewes Racecourse which is now disused. You will take a 4 mile circular walk including a gentle walk up onto the Downs. There's now a new series of caches in the area so you can do these at the same time.

You can reach the cache from a number of directions but these instructions are for a circular walk with the cache about 1/3 of the way around.
If you park at the suggested location, the walk is just short of 4 miles and can be completed in 2 hours. There is a climb but it’s not too steep, the walking is fairly easy but can be muddy at times since the horses have chewed up the footpaths in places. Most of the route is open countryside with views across the downs and you can even see the Newhaven Ferry when it’s in the harbour.
You will have the choice of walking through a wood and this is well worth doing. The public footpath runs parallel to the Lewes Racecourse which is now used only for training.
Please stay on the footpath which is well signposted, do not feel tempted to cut across the farmer’s fields, even if your GPS thinks it’s a good idea.

Stay off the field, the cache is in the adjacent wood, but only just!
