When the Heinola motorway was built in the 1990's, they had to
blast away some rock in a few places. This cache is hidden on top
of one such cutting. From the top there's a great view to the
motorway and eastwards over Heinola.
There's no access to the cache from the motorway. The easiest
way is to take road number 140 north of Heinola and turn towards
"Suomäki". At coordinates N61° 15.492' and E026° 03.213' a small
road leads towards the cache. The road used to be open, but on
December 2006 it was blocked by a gate. The last 800 - 1200 metres
you will have to tread on foot and the terrain is a bit demanding
on a few places. In order to get to the cache you will have to
climb over (or under, or around) a 140 cm high steel fence on top
of the cliff. It is not forbidden, but you had better be careful,
especially in the winter. The cache is on top of the cutting,
there's no need for any climbing downwards or peeking over the
edge.
There's another cache very near this one, namely the
Turquoise pool.
Kun Heinolan moottoritietä rakennettiin 1990-luvulla, sen tieltä
jouduttiin räjäyttämään kalliota muutamassa paikassa. Tämä kätkö on
erään tuollaisen kallioleikkauksen päällä. Päältä on hieno näkymä
moottoritielle ja itäänpäin yli Heinolan.
Kätkölle ei pääse moottoritieltä. Helpoin tapa lähestyä kätköä
on tie 140 Heinolasta pohjoiseen, josta kääntyy tie Suomäkeen.
Koordinaateissa N61° 15.492' ja E026° 03.213' kääntyy pikkutie
kätkön suuntaan. Tietä pitkin pääsi ennen ajamaan autolla, mutta
joulukuussa 2006 se suljettiin puomilla. Viimeiset 800 - 1200
metriä pitää mennä jalkaisin ja maasto on paikoitellen vaativaa.
Päästäksesi kätkölle, sinun pitää vielä ylittää (tai alittaa, tai
kiertää) noin 140 cm korkea verkkoaita. Se on täysin luvallista,
mutta on syytä olla melko varovainen, erityisesti talvella. Kätkö
on leikkauksen päällä, alaspäin kiipeilyyn tai aivan kallion
reunalla kuikuiluun ei ole tarvetta.
