Kätkökuvaus

Pontikkalan kätkö sijaitsee Samppavuoren näkötornin maastossa. Alueelta löytyy myös vanha (joskin jonkun maanviljelijän ammoin kivillä täyttämä) hiidenkirnu, kalliokirkko, sekä tanssikallio, jolla seutukunnan nuoret ovat pyörähdelleet paikallisten pelimannien säestämänä. Toisen maailmansodan aikana Samppavuorella toimi Suojeluskuntajärjestön ilmatähystyspiste. Näkötorni on rakennettu paikalla sijainneen kolmiomittaustornin tilalle. Aluetta varten rakennetulla pysäköintipaikalla on opastaulu, josta voi tutkia alueen historiaa tarkemmin. Samalta paikalta lähtee myös opastettu polku näkötornille ja muille alueen kohteille. Viimeisessä risteyksessä ennen pysäköintipaikkaa on yksi samaan suuntaan osoittavista tienviitoista "Pontikkala". Siitä kätkön nimi.

Kätkö sai osittain inspiraationsa Karhuvuoren geokätköstä, kun löysimme kätköilyretken aikana samankaltaisen ja kätköttämisen arvoiseksi arvioimamme paikan.

Cache description

The geocache Pontikkala is located in the vicinity of Samppavuori watchtower. In the same area there is a ice age pit (though filled with rocks ages ago by some farmer), a "chuch like" rock formation and a cliff, where young people of the neighbourhood have been dancing by the music of local musicians. During WWII there was air control tower of the organization "Suojeluskunta" in the Samppavuori. The watchtower is built to replace the Geodetic Arc Tower which was there before. From the parking place starts a guided pathway to watchtower and other targets. In the last intersection before the parking place a road sign "Pontikkala" points to the same direction, hence the name of the cache.

This cache is partly inspired by the geocache "Karhuvuori - Bear Mountain", when we found a similar place worth cacheing during our cache trip.
