This cache can only be reached by a canoe or some other type of boat. It is a .50 Cal. ammo box repainted with Geocaching.com written on it. Do not go onto the shore! This cache can be reached without getting out of the canoe. There are plenty of signs telling you to "do not land your canoe on the shoreline". Just be carefull while sitting in the canoe and going through the cache. The cache itself is bolted to a dead tree, so as not to harm any live trees. Canoes may be rented 11AM to 7PM at the cordinates above. The rates are $8/hr. You will need to leave an ID. and a $10 deposit before you can take a canoe. The phone number listed for information on renting is 612-919-4185. I am not sure when this rental place opens in the spring, or closes in the fall. I am guessing Memorial Day - Labor Day.
The cache itself is located at N44.57.351 / W93.18.480
Have fun, and enjoy the lakes. Please bring a garbage bag and pick up some litter along the way.
These lakes used to be swamps. In 1889 the Minneapolis Park Board started dredging them out to make shorelines and lakes. The lakes were connected by channels in 1911. From where you rent the canoes you can get to four different lakes. Have fun and use life jackets.
Note: This cache will be deactivated in late October for the winter.
