Choices is a four-part multi-cache intended to
introduce you to the natural beauty of northern Dauphin County near
the borough of Lykens. The intermediate caches are
smaller-than-normal size olive drab plastic containers. The final
cache is an ammo can.
Choices, choices, choices... The terrain difficulty of this
cache will depend on your choices in picking the route to
each of the intermediates and the final cache. All the
intermediates are accessible on foot or by mountain bike (your
choice). The final cache is accessible by mountain bike until
the last quarter mile. The difficulty rating is more for the
distance to be hiked, while the actual hiking can be done on
fairly level trails. A topographic map of the area is
strongly suggested to help you to pick the easiest routes.
The nearby terrain contains some steep ravines leading down to
beautiful mountain streams. You are encouraged to investigate and
enjoy them, but small children should be kept under close control
to avoid accidents. This is a large, wild, natural area, so all the
usual precautions apply. Hunting is permitted here and it is
advisable to wear hunter orange during the hunting seasons (Check
the Pennsylvania Game Commission web
site for hunting season dates). Come prepared for the
weather, bring drinking water and wear sturdy footwear. Total
hiking distance can vary from about four miles to almost 8 miles.
But the shortest distance isn't always the easiest - your
choice!
