Geocache Description:

Gently sloping ground. Nice easy hike. You'll be walking on very wide flat trails and an occasional trail through knee-high brush. You shouldn't need Band Aids when you are finished.

This is a multi cache. Take highway 302 to where the highway and 144th ST NW split off. 144th is a wide dirt road on your right. The coords for this intersection are: N47*23.340 W122*40.833. Follow the dirt road for 300 yards or so to: N47*23.332 W122*41.024. There is a gate here. Park your car and walk north up the gated dirt road to N47*23.467 W122*40.937. You are looking for a tree that has been rigged like a sailboat mast complete with cable and pulleys. You need to lower the container and remove one of the laminated waypoint cards by twisting the cap off. Be sure to raise the container back up before you go on to the 2nd waypoint! The 2nd, 3rd and 4th waypoints are rigged the same way with cables and pulleys. The 4th waypoint contains the coordinance to the cache which will require a little backtracking down the trails you've just traversed. After locating the cache tree, operate the cables and pulleys to make the bell ring somewhere off in the distance. You'll have to quiet the kids as you ring the bell or you won't hear it. Ideally you'll leave your better half or kids to ring the bell while you follow the sound to the treasure. The cache is near this tree and is the only thing on this entire hunt that isn't up in the air. There is a container inside the cache for you to recycle the laminated waypoint cards. It'll take you about an hour to complete all 5 waypoints. Waypoint 1,2 and 4 can be seen from the trail/road. Waypoint 3 and the cache are a little off the road. Walk the trail/road until you see either the tree in question or a trail leading off in the right direction. All waypoints are the sum of averaging. I had a hard time getting consistent readings. I hope you enjoy the product of many a late night of me out climbing trees...FWIW, if you do this one late in the day, you can bring your flashlight and take on the "Glint of a Nightime Cache" cache. The gate is the starting point for that one also.

UPDATE 3/3/04:
I went out tonight and did some much needed cache updates. All the waypoint pulleys are repaired, the cache is full of all new items and a new log book has been placed. Cache needs a pencil or bring your own. Our readings showed the final waypoint off from what I say in waypoint 4. I'll update all the waypoints soon as the laminated cards are almost gone.
