Geocache Description:

This chasm with 200-feet deep blue spring water defies description.

Please note that because someone has continuously messed (literally) with this cache that I have (1) replaced the original cache container with a clear Tupperware container with a blue lid (2) relocated the cache from its original hiding spot, and (3) covered it completely. After you find it, please cover it again. Thank you for your cooperation.

Dangerous area - use caution

The Gulf (locally known as Blue Hole) is a sinkhole about 100 feet long and 20 feet wide with a 40 foot drop to the water below. Geologists and hydrologists cannot explain its origin or its present function. Those wanting to scramble down to the water's edge can find a couple safe spots to do so, but be careful if you are on the edge of The Gulf!

While in the area make sure to check out the spring which gave the town of Mill Spring its name. Coordinates: N 37 03.601 W 90 40.912. You can drive right up to the spring if you turn down an alley (First Street?) when you first enter town. Make sure to check out the remains of the mill just down the spring branch. The spring averages 8 million gallons a day.

Both Mill Spring and neighboring Leeper have many interesting old buildings, and the Willamette chip mill is another interesting site.

Make sure to make an entry in the log.

I hope you enjoy this cache. Be careful. Don't get too close to The Gulf in the snow or ice.

Less than 500 ft. from car to cache

Additional Hints (Encrypt)

To find this one now, you will have to walk around to the back side of The Gulf and search carefully around a fallen tree near the fence.
