N 42...Something Something Something Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dinoprophet: With regret, I pulled the first and the final stages this afternoon. I was surprised at how well the final stage endured the floods a few weeks ago. Stage three went missing a while ago; I'll have to remove stage two when the snow clears.

Thanks for the great feedback on this cache. I'll be keeping an eye out for an area -- one less muggle-prone -- to do a similar one. I'll also recycle the current contents into a new cache. The camera is only about half full, so I'll probably put that in the new cache as well.

Geocache Description:

I've suffered a cache memory fault. How are you without waypoints?

Boy, is my face red (or should I say "Rouge"?). I was placing a multicache, and as usual I hid the final stage first and was working backwards. But when I got to where I was hiding the next stage, I couldn't remember where the previous stage was, and I hadn't marked a waypoint! I did, however, have my track log. So, like Guy Pierce in Memento, I took a picture of my track for future reference, left it in the container, and continued placing my cache. Unfortunately, the same thing happened at every stage. Now, the only trace I have of my multicache is a series of track log pictures and the coordinates for the first container.

Can you follow my tracks and find all the stages of my multicache? Find the first container at the posted coordinates and take a copy of the picture. Use the photo to find the next stage. Repeat until you find them all. The stages are in Victory Mike Specials (4"X 4"X 2" black plastic boxes), with an ammo can for the final. While the pictures are actual photos of my eTrex and track log, they have been enhanced to make them clearer.

By the way, I also forgot how many stages there are.

Some tips:

  • Remember that the track shows where I came from, so the little man is WHERE YOU ARE; you need to get to the UNMARKED end of the track line, which will typically be near the top of the screen.
  • Pay attention to the scale and which way is north
  • Look for changes in direction and other anomalies in the track. Think about how they might relate to landmarks and terrain
  • Parts of the tracks may be exaggerated or even unnecessary, but they should give you additional clues.
  • The pictures only show the track between the stage you're at and the next one; you can forget about the previous stages. I did.

I recall crossing a broken fence at one point along the route. While it looks like private property, the path is part of the River Rouge Parkway and is okay to cross. There is obvious private property nearby, so please stay near the trail.

An encrypted clue for stage one is provided here; I found it tatooed on my chest the next day. Look for additional clues and information on the pictures.

I worked less than two miles from this beautiful Dearborn city park for almost three years before I found it. Or maybe I knew about it and forgot. The main parking lot can be accessed from Monroe St or Brady Rd, north of Michigan Ave. Here you'll find a playground, ball fields, and loads of picnic space. The cache has many random items, including some of my signature pins. There is also a cache camera; use it to take a picture of your own.
