This is a two stage cache, but no micros. The cache contains the usual items plus a Tanky Tank for FTF.
Mooney Flat was once a booming area in the gold rush days, and if you look to the west from stage one the “diggin’s” are quite visible. A tunnel ran from these diggings that carried tailings into Deer Creek. (The tunnel also served as a giant sluice box.) It was also a layover spot for miners on their way from Marysville to the Nevada silver mines, ultimately connecting with the Virginia Turnpike that crossed over the Bridgeport covered bridge.
To find stage two coordinates, subtract 1744 from the first date on the marker to get ‘a’; subtract 1262 from the second date on the marker to get ‘b’. The cache is at N39° 14.a, W121° 13.b.
NOTE: Power lines are effecting the GPS readings. The cache is NOT up the gully, but is near. Use your geosense to find it.
