Kikas Valley Farm Geocache is nightskyk9's 100th geocache. We are nightskyk9's Mom and Dad. Nightskyk9 told us there is a new park in the area, called Kikas Valley Farm.
Kikas Valley Farm is a park in the making. If you were ever at Mobbs Park, it is very similar. The Jericho Underhill Land Trust was donated 280 acres of forest and field that was received from the Snyder Companies in October 2006. This working landscape, with sweeping vistas of Mt. Mansfield and Camels Hump, is now called Kikas Valley Farm. Kikas (pronounced Keekas) is the Abenaki name for the month of May and it means “field planter” It was a home for a early Native American site. Recent archeological work on this property, and 9,000 year old artifacts were discovered here. JULT has donated a conservation easement to the Vermont Land Trust which protects this important landscape forever.
To get to the cache, take Skunk Hollow to Tyler Place Rd. At 44 28.500N 072 01.050W. Drive up and off to the side. You can park here and walk the perimeter of the fields and follow trails into the woods. Trails are open for non-motorized use and enjoyment. Please stay clear of tractor work and the heavy equipment associated with home building. Future plans include a small parking area for easier access and trail signs. Walk to the trail enterance at 44 28.320N, 073 00.570W. The entire walk is about 1 mile there and back, mostly walking on fields. You may want to explore more of the trails though. Refer to the Map.
Take your mud boots, parts of the trail are quite muddy!
