BilboB with DJ's help has placed this cache as:
The VERMONT DeLorme Challenge * *
Please note: THE COORDINATES POSTED ON THIS PAGE ARE NOT THE
COORDINATES FOR THE FINAL CACHE!! They are to my front porch. The
cache IS NOT located here.
DJ and CAL are helping with cache maint until I get back from my
tour overseas.
Are you ready for the ultimate Vermont caching challenge? The
Vermont DeLorme Atlas and Gazetteer has 36 map pages and yes there
is a cache on page 43. You need to find 37 caches in Vermont. One
cache on each page (page 37 is a split map and requires a find on
both maps) to complete this challenge. Many states have a DeLorme
challenge. It started in 2004 in California, and has evolved over
the years. When in doubt about ANYTHING, please email me.
1. Find a cache within the boundaries of each page of the DeLorme
Vermont Atlas & Gazetteer. CITO, meet and greats, and event
caches do not count. It has to be a bonafide cache. If a page
overlaps into another state, then the cache find must be within the
state of Vermont.
2. Generally accepted rules, guidelines and conditions for logging
a cache find apply. These must be bona fide caches listed on
Geocaching.com that you have personally (physically) found and
logged. You may NOT include caches found prior to the creation of
The Vermont DeLorme Challenge. Cache finds must be from the day
this cache is posted onward (Jan. 5, 2007). Some other state
challenges grandfather caches in, but they tend to be the larger
states. 37 caches is not that hard is it?
3. At the time I wrote this there was at least 1 cache on every
page. If for some reason, an available cache (due to seasonal or
physical limitations, or perhaps you've done them all)does not
exist on a map page in the DeLorme atlas of Vermont, or if you just
feel up to it, then you can complete the page requirements by
placing a cache within the lat/long coordinates for that particular
page. Remember that caches must be maintained as well. If after
getting credit for the overall find, your cache is archived (I
haven't made up my mind how long your new cache must be acitve to
suffice), your find will be deleted until that section is completed
again.
4. After completing the challenge you will need to send me a list
of the caches found or hidden so it can be verified that you have
completed the Vermont DeLorme Challenge. I will need the DeLorme
map page #, waypoint # (GC#), cache name, date found, and lat/long
coords. (I am working on an automated verificaton program) I will
then send you the coordinates to the final cache and log book. You
can list everything as a note for all or an email will do. I will
periodically set up something to see where everyone stands in the
stats.
5. Feel free to bookmark this cache and the caches that you plan to
attempt for your Vermont challenge for all to see.
6. If you find the cache by accident, your log will be deleted
until you complete the challenge. If a group finds the final cache,
only the cacher completing the challenge will be allowed to log a
find. All other finds will be deleted. Notes are accepted.
7. At various times, the coordinates will move about the state so
other cachers can stare at it as a DNF yet. This will get more
interest in this challenge.
8. So what are you waiting for? Download those topos, gas up the
truck, pack the cooler, brew LOTS of coffee and get out there!
There are some serious bragging rights at stake people! The FTF
prize is not much, but should be enjoyed by the lucky cacher. I am
going to stock the cache with some TB's and coins, and see what
starts to accrue after awhile.
Additional rule detail...
Q. Can I re-find a cache that I previously found.
A. No it must be a new find.
Q. If 2 cachers place a cache together as a joint hide, can they
both claim it as a Hide to complete the map page?
A. Yes, but only if it is done as a cache with a reason other than
placing one... example: nice trail, park, unique view, or monuments
ect, are good .....
You get the idea..
Guard rail stop and grabs will not be counted as 2 cacher
hides..
I will post boundry line coordinates for the purpose of
qualification.

Q. What counts when the cache page listed coordinates are NOT the
cache coordinates and the cache is on one map and the listed
coordinates are on another?
A. I am working on an automated verification program. The listed
coordinates and listed state are the ones it will use to verify the
Map, not the final. If a cache has a mistake and the coords are
corrected to move it into another map page, then the coords listed,
at the time of verification will be used. You could save yourself
some hassle and do an extra cache on the map if you have one that
is questionable.
The verification program that I am hoping to use will require a "My
Finds" file, from the bottom of the Pocket Queries page.
DJ will help with adding more info to the page until I get back
from my tour overseas.
