We, the humans, have filled this earth to the point of having
problems co-existing with other lifeforms on the planet. Let's take
elk and other animals of the deer family, for example. In Finland
alone, 5 to 10 people get killed and 200 to 400 get injured every
year in traffic accidents where elk are involved. This is
considered a major problem.
Many solutions to the problem have been suggested and tested.
One of them is to build a high fence around the principal roads to
prevent the animals from getting onto the roads. The problem with
such fences is, that the animals have a natural need to move around
and these fenced highways block their natural routes of migration,
and eventually they will find a way to get on the road where, more
often than not, they get trapped in between the fences.
Man, in his infinite wisdom, has come up with a solution to this
too. Let's build bridges for the animals to cross the fenced roads.

This cache is on one of those, so called "green bridges" which,
from a rational, human point of view, leads from nowhere at all to
nowhere in particular. From an animal point of view... well, who
knows!
Me ihmiset olemme täyttäneet tämän maan siihen pisteeseen, että
meillä alkaa olla vaikeuksia mahtua planeetalle muiden
elämänmuotojen kanssa. Otetaan esimerkiksi hirvieläimet. Yksin
Suomessa kuolee viidestä kymmeneen ja loukkaantuu kahdesta
neljäänsataan ihmistä vuosittain liikenneonnettomuuksissa, joissa
on osallisena hirvieläin. Tätä pidetään vakavana ongelmana.
Monia ratkaisuja ongelmaan on esitetty ja kokeiltu. Eräs
ratkaisu on rakentaa pääteiden ympärille korkeat aidat, jotka
estävät eläinten pääsyn tielle. Ongelmana tällaisten aitojen kanssa
on, että eläimillä on luonnollinen tarve kulkea ympäriinsä ja
aidatut tiet tukkivat niiden luonnolliset vaellusreitit - ja
lopulta ne kuitenkin löytävät jonkun reitin tiealueelle, johon ne
useimmiten jäävät ansaan aitojen väliin.
Ihminen on äärettömässä viisaudessaan keksinyt ratkaisun
tähänkin ongemaan. Rakennetaan eläimille siltoja, joita pitkin ne
voivat ylittää aidatut tiet. Nerokasta!
Tämä kätkö on eräällä tuollaisella niinsanotulla
"vihersillalla", joka järkevästi ajatellen ihmisen näkökulmasta ei
vie yhtään mistään oikeastaan minnekään. Eläinten näkökulmasta
