Ashworths Beach (Canterbury) Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Sallies: What a pity - a burn-off that went wrong, jumped the fence and the road and managed to destroy trees and ground cover all the way to the beach. The cache is indeed gone although by scouring through the debris we managed to find a scrap of log paper and the remains of the geocoin that was in the cache - we will contact the owner of the coin to see what to do next!
We have no choice but to archive this cache as there is certainly no hiding spot left at the coordinates.

Geocache Description:

This cache is at Ashworths Beach - a place we never knew existed until this afternoon! It is a typical, exposed Canterbury beach in Pegasus Bay. On a sunny summer's day, with little wind, this would be a lovely place for a family day out.

The cache is a 1 litre, green sistema container containing a log book and pencils with a few caching goodies.

There is a large car park at the end of the road and the cache is just a short distance away, hidden in grass at the side of the track. There is no need to venture off the marked path into the sensitive ecological area.

Do take notice of the caution signs - they are there for a reason! Don't drive right up to the beach unless you are sure that your vehicle is capable of such a ride.

Signs say: Caution! Very soft sand ahead. Light 4wd trucks; with caution. 2wd and 4wd cars NOT AT ALL.

The turnoff to the cache from SH1 is at Ashworth Beach Road. You might like to visit the restaurant on this corner on your way out - we have had coffee there several times. You might also be interested in finding out more about the Ultimate Challenge - "The Beast". (visit link)
