A chess themed multi around Dunedin that will test your logic and
knowledge of chess.
The cache (a 2L snaplock container hidden at ground level) is
located at S45 5A.ABC E170 29.BDD
To find this cache you will need to solve 4 chess puzzles, which
each reveal one digit of the co-ordinates, 2 included here on the
website (C and D) and 2 located in waypoints (35mm film canisters)
around Dunedin (A and B).
In each of the puzzles, the aim is to checkmate the opposing
player’s king in 1 move. The piece you must move to do so reveals
the value of the letter in brackets and the top of the sheet -
Pawn=2 Bishop=1 Knight=3 Rook=8 Queen=7 King=0.
In order to find the location of the two waypoints as well as the
values of C and D, you must solve the puzzles on this page.
The co-ordinates below each of the puzzles are for the virtual
positions of the piece you must move to achieve checkmate. There is
no need to visit those co-ordinates. The way point containers are
offset from these virtual points by the chess move required to
achieve checkmate of the opposing king. Up on the board is true
north and each square represents 100m in the real world. The
co-ordinates below the 2 puzzles on this page are not related with
one another.
There is a cardboard chess board and a set of plastic chess pieces
at the cache for the FTFer. If you are unfamiliar with chess the
rules can be found at this link.
You can check your solution for the final cache co-ords
on
Geochecker.com.
Good Luck.
