As part of the 'You oughta see the water' series of caches you
will visit lakes and water features that are all interconnected and
together, drain over 60 square kilometres of land to provide water
for consumption and water for production of electricity!
Coedty Reservior was originally built in 1924. Re built in 1926
as the dam was breached with the flood water from Eigiau in 1925,
and rebuilt some more in 1956. Coedty is a balance tip dam where if
the water level is too high, it is automatically released and the
water goes down the gorge that you'll see on the Dolgarrog
cache.
Coedty is the main lake for the power station in that it has a
very steep drop down to the power station which provides the water
pressure needed to spin the water turbines. When the water level
gets too low, more water can be drawn from Llyn Cowlyd along the
pipeline to fill Coedty back up again ready for the next electric
power requirement.
