As part of the 'You oughta see the water' series of caches you
will visit lakes and water features that are all interconnected and
together, drain over 60 square kilometres of land to provide water
for consumption and water for production of electricity!
Llyn Dulyn is an impressive site due to the high cliffs that
form the back wall of this lake. I have been here in strong winds
and I've actually seen the waterfall blowing back up the cliff!! It
is thought it is the cliffs that give the lake its name. Dulyn
translates as Black Lake, and the high imposing cliffs certainly
make the waters of the lake dark and forboding. The lake itself
only covers 33 acres but is very deep at 57 metres (189 foot). The
lake does have a dam that was first built in 1881 but has been
adjusted many times over the years. The water flows out from the
lake down Afon Dulyn (Dulyn River) where it goes through a small
water turbine to generate electricity before it then goes through a
tunnel to get to Llyn Eigiau.
Car parking is available in Cwm Eigiau at N53 10.717 W3
53.970.
Ignore the blurb on the front page of the book about
providing you with co-ords for the next cache. You Oughta See the
Water was originally being planned out as pyramid scheme. But I
changed my mind.
