Bent Jetty
This is our annual holiday spot!
One of the best kept secrets on Yorkes. Why so good? Check out the caravan park. It's sheltered in the old quarry and the jetty, boating, swimming, fishing and snorkelling is all within sight of your site.
It's the latter you'll be doing for this cache! You won't need SCUBA, only a snorkel and mask. If you don't have a canoe or small boat, you can triangulate the general area from the end of the jetty, the BBQ shelter, and the top of the path to the toilets. Then use the landmark clues once you're wet. (leaving your GPSr nice and dry)
Below the surface you'll find a nifty little reef worthy of the swim out.
The cache is a smaller container inside a similar 1 litre screwtop container loaded with a lead slab to keep it on the sea bed. The whole arrangement is anchored to the sea bed with a wheel hub. It's under a rock ledge at the seaward end of a chasm between two large rocks. It's tied to the anchor with a thin nylon rope and a stainless steel clip. You can unclip it to retrieve the cache. Once found, please replace it in an identical way, with the lid upward and done up tightly!
If you don't want to swim to shore to sign the log with dry hands, just leave a small item in the cache and sign it online.
Landmark Clues:
Once you are in the general area (ie wet!) look to the base of the jetty and line up the light pole supporting the raised lamp with the back edge of the BBQ shelter.
Now look to the cabins on the cliff top. Line up the lamp on the lamp post behind the cabins with the gap between the third cabin and its verandah pole.
If both of these lines are right, dive right down and start looking!
It will take some hunting, but the find will be rewarding.
