Geocache Description:

After parking in the lot (PA10MRY), go across the street and proceed to the trailhead coordinates (ST10MRY). Continue up the driveway (this is the right of way to access the property) and cross over the wire rope attached to the utility pole.

This location is shown on the State of Rhode Island map as Diamond Hill State Park however the Department of Environmental Management does not have this listed as a state park.

This area was once a granite quarry that operated through most of the 19th century producing some of the finest quality stone in New England. In 1877 the Diamond Hill Granite Quarry was chartered and built a half-mile railroad spur that connected with the main railroad line. A forty horsepower engine was used to hoist the cars and operate the drills. The quarry continued operation through the mid 1930’s.

During World War II Johnson Automatic Rifles, whose manufacturing facilities were located in Cranston, RI, constructed buildings and a shooting range at this site.

Be sure to bring water and snacks. A flashlight could be helpful at times. It would be greatly appreciated if you could please replace all stages as you found them to make it enjoyable for the next seeker.

There are numerous trails that cover this area so you may want to turn on the tracks within your GPSr.

There are many fire roads, trails and cleared paths that lead to all of the stages so there should be no need for bushwhacking.
