The Doug McLaren Lakes and the Franklin Edward Memorial Tennis
Courts were named after prominent Holroyd identities. Doug McLaren
was a lawyer in the Merrylands area and was known for his community
work. The Franklin Edward Memorial Tennis Courts, were named after
Alderman Edward (1953-1974). who was the Deputy Mayor of Holroyd in
1961 and 1962. He was also a delegate to Prospect County Council
from its formation and was involved in many local
organisations.
The vegetation at Central Gardens primarily consists of a
mixture of remnant indigenous vegetation and planted trees within a
parkland setting.
The most significant area of remnant vegetation is known as
Central Gardens Woodland , located in the northwest corner of the
park adjacent to the Cumberland Highway frontage.
The most common canopy species is Eucalyptus moluccana (Grey
Box), with other Eucalypts occurring occasionally, including
Eucalyptus crebra (Narrow-leafed Ironbark) and Eucalyptus
tereticornis (Forest Red Gum). In the lower portion of the
community Melaleuca styphelioides (Prickly-leafed Paperbark) also
forms a major component.
The cache is a small, sistema container but big enough to hold
small swaps and small TB's. Perfect for geocoins.
There is a logbook but no pencil. BYO pen or pencil.
The cache is only accessible during daylight hours. The park
closes at 7pm during daylight savings and at 5pm at all other
times.
Geo kids are fine and will love the area but please leave the
geo pups at home!
The entire area is a muggle frenzy zone on weekends so you will
need super stealth. If you choose to visit mid week you will find
the place almost deserted.
Please make sure you are not watched as you conduct your search,
the Ranger station is not far away. Forgo your search if the muggle
density is too high!
Enjoy!
