Most people who visit the Tasman Peninsula do to see the Convict history. But they are missing out on the real beauty of the Peninsula.
I walked the tracks many times when I was young as my family owned the farm where the track starts. I thought it would be a good spot for a first cache.
This area is now part of the Tasman National Park so unfortunately dogs aren't allowed. There are great views of Ship stern Bluff (flat rock as the locals call it), Cape Roul and across to south Bruny in the distance.
Older children would be able to do this walk but I would not take small children because of the cliffs. Look at the photo of Jaktas standing with his pop Siggy. Siggy is 6 foot tall!
You have to park your cache-mobile at S 43 11.548 E 147 46.651 although it is not the end of the road as there isn't any parking at the beginning of the track. From there it’s a 1.5 hour return trip to the lookout or 4 hrs to the cape. It is well worth spending more time and walking all the way to the cape. The track is well marked.
