I
am currently fulfilling a challenge to create a series of new
caches...one Traditional, one Mystery, one Multi, and
this Letterbox hybrid.
Why am I doing this? I entered a contest on the forum to try
and win a new coin. I had to come up with some task to do to
try and win. I won and this is my challenge. My prize
for doing this? This
coin. I think it was worth it!
For
this letterbox hybrid you will be visiting a tiny bit of San Jose
History. Kelley Park is built on land donated by Louise
Kelley. She inherited the land from her father Judge Lawrence
Archer, former Mayor of San Jose. Today the park features
picnic areas, Happy Hollow Zoo and Amusement Park, a beautiful
Japanese Friendship Garden, and a Historic Museum. If you
park between the Historic Museum and Friendship Garden, parking is
usually free and you can take a relaxing stroll through the
Japanese garden on the way to the cache location. The lot
closer to the cache site frequently charges for
parking.
When
you reach the posted coordinates you will be standing in front of
the Kelley Family Home. It is falling to pieces. Do Not
attempt to enter the house, the cache is not
inside!!
Once
you are standing in front of the blue trimmed door looking at the
house, you are in the correct place. Turn to your right and
follow the chainlink fence around the house until you are standing
at the back of the house by the door near the center of the
back.
With
your back to the center door, locate and walk to the lattice just
across the road. From the shade of the lattice, with the
house behind you, locate and walk to the telephone pole directly
ahead. From the telephone pole, locate and walk to the first
tree to your left. You will find the small round camo taped
container hidden under the ivy right at the base of the trunk on
the right side of the tree. Please do not trample the ivy, no
matter how tempting. Please make sure the cache is well
hidden when you leave.
Inside
the cache you will find a stamp and stamp pad. Please do not
take them, they are part of the Letterbox and need to stay for the
next person to use. If you have your own stamp, go ahead and
stamp the log if not, a signature will be fine.
