Tribute to "Geocache
GC45 by pcmke"
Link to Geocache GC45 by pcmke This is the oldest cache in New
Zealand and the Southern Hemisphere.
The original cache by pcmke was placed on the 12th May 2000.
This was the first recorded "Geocache" in NZ. It may also have had
the distinction of being the first 'muggled' cache. It has since
been archived with no recorded online logs.
Most of the caches at this time were simply entitled "Geocache
by the username" of the owner. The cache description often
contained only the coordinates and a short description. The caches
themselves were rather large buckets - a far cry from the sistema
containers typically used today.
There are two waypoints below. The first is of the closest
accessible location to the original cache. The second is the
original Geocache by pcmke. Access to the exact location is
difficult due to overgrowth in the area and will certainly be very
uncomfortable to those that may wish to attempt the exact
location.
