TRIGO is disorganizing this
unprecedented public service project to help out our good
friends at Moraine
State Park. Join us on Sunday April 29, 2007 in our quest
to explore every corner of the park!
Geocachers will be issued
coordinates that will be used to locate the boundary corners of the
park and document their condition. It's a monumental task with
there being close to 100 boundary corners on a 30-mile perimeter
but we're out to prove that a well-disorganized army of geocachers
can accomplish this in a single day. Sounds like a challenge!
Sounds like an event! We're counting on geocachers everywhere to
help get this job done because it just so happens that we're
uniquely qualified for this unusual assignment. That's because it
all boils down to using a GPS to find an unnatural pile of rocks in
the woods and we've all been there and done that! There will be no
tupperware to find this time around but the game is essentially the
same.
Details are still
being worked out but geocachers will receive training and
documentation forms to fill out. Please bring your GPS, a tape
measure, something to write with, a cellphone, and a digital camera
if you have one. It might also be worthwhile to bring equipment
useful for "brushing out" the corners such as clippers, garden
gloves, etc. The event will begin at 9:00 AM but stragglers are
encouraged to show up whenever they can to receive training and
materials. If we can get 30 teams (one or more persons equipped
with a GPS), each team will need to locate and document just 3 or 4
corners to get the job done. We think this is very doable. Some
corners will be easy and others more challenging so there should be
something for everyone.
The park has set aside
a pavilion for our use. The coordinates at the top of the page
should get you to Pavillion #7 which is where we will coordinate
things. Participants will be treated to an informal potluck picnic
at about 4:30 PM when our work is done. The park will provide hot
meatball sandwiches, pop, hot coffee, paper plates, napkins,
silverware and glasses. In the time-honored tradition of TRIGO
disorganization, geocachers are requested to bring a side dish,
desert item, or whatever else they might like to eat and share with
other geocachers. If everyone brings potato salad then that is what
we shall eat!
Please stay tuned to
this listing for further updates. updates.
We will require a
fairly accurate count on the number of participants in order to
distribute assignments efficiently so please RSVP by logging a
"will attend" to this page. If you have any questions or concerns,
feel free to post a note or chime in on the TRIGO message board. If
you happen to have a metal detector, this may be very helpful to
find some of the corners that are known to be marked by metal pins.
Please let us know in advance if you are so equipped.
We have an updated spreadsheet (compliments of Kiteboy) that we
have modified to add the names to the corners that people want.
Just check the spreadsheet for the corners you want and let us know
by writing a note. We will try to keep this as up to date as
possible. The link for the spreadsheet is
here! |
