Mount Sunapee, at something over 2700', is a well-known Southern
New Hampshire peak. It operates as an alpine ski resort in the winter. In the
summer, the State
Park offers a number of activities including swimming, a skate
park, mountain biking, and hiking trails.
You can reach this cache near the summit of Mount Sunapee on
foot or on skis. To get full credit, you should really get to it
without riding the chairlift but that requirement can be
relaxed in the winter months. Though downhill skiers should, under
most conditions, be able to safely reach this cache (though you may
need to dig it out of the snow), they do so at their own risk and
could incur the wrath of the ski patrol for being “off piste”.
Hikers can approach this site either from the ski area base at
N43°19.88' W72°4.78' or from the backside via the Andrew Brook
Trail off of Mountain Road where there is limited parking at about
N43°17.88' W72°2.31'. Those looking for a more relaxing experience
could take the chairlift to the mountain’s summit and then have a
relatively short hike to the cache site. But that would be
cheating.
We’ve equipped this lovely primer red ammo box with a logbook
and some treasures to please young and old. Please sign the logbook
and, if you’d like, take a treasure in exchange for one of your
own. And enjoy the mountain!
CAUTION: It could get pretty nasty in a winter storm at this
site. Make proper preparations and read the geocaching disclaimer before
attempting a winter hike! Search at your own risk!
