La Honda
Creek OSP is a little known and very uncrowded Open Space
Preserve just off Bear Gulch road, hiking in this preserve is
allowed by permit only, the terrain is mild and the views
are incredible on a clear day. Information on hiking in this
area and obtaining permits can be found at Midpeninsula
Regional Open Space District and Bay Area
Hiker or by calling the MROSD field office at
650-691-1200.
The cache itself is a large camo'd plastic bottle and should be
a relatively easy find, continuing past the cache site to the top
of the nearby hill provides an excellent view of the Russian Ridge,
Butano, and Windy Hill areas. The terrain rating is based on
completing the entire walk which is roughly 2.8 miles.
The preserve is open from dawn to one half hour after sunset
each day, insect repellent would be a good idea in certain seasons
as some of the trails are grass covered and ticks are present in
this area. Enjoy the cache and the views !
