Throop
Peak
Throop Peak (pronounced "Troop") is named after Amos G. Throop,
founder of Cal Tech.
Sitting at 9,138 feet, it is accessible from a few directions.
Although with the closure of HWY 2 from Islip Saddle to Vincent Gap
your choices will be limited. The route of my choice at the time of
placing this cache was by way of Mt Baden Powell.
The 4.5 star rating for terrain is based on my evening round
trip that I started at Vincent Gap and over Mt Baden Powell thus
concluding with a 13.5 mile hike. I did this as a strenuous non
stop hike, but an easier pace could be kept by making an
overnighter on Throop Peak and enjoying a night of rest under the
stars.
The cache is an ammo can with the following "replaced" swag
after it was looted:
- Log Book With Pencil
- Nylon Stuff Bag
- 2 lithium AA's
- Baldy & Cucamonga Wilderness Topo Trail Map
- Angeles High Country Topo Trail Map
- Mt. Whitney Zone Topo Trail Map
- 2 Dog Collars
- Gerber Multi Tool
Also in the Ammo Can are a pair of Binoculars that are not for
trade. They are to be used for the great views but left for others
to enjoy.
