Geocache Description:

Drive up cache

Of course your GPS does not show McCorry road!
But "Millerton" is way too common in this part of the state.
It may be hard to imagine now, but in the 1850's, this gravel road was the major north south route in California. (Moraga mentioned the route in his journal from his 1806 trip into the valley, that gave Mariposa its name.) It was Highway 99 and I-5 all rolled into one glorious cow trail. It ran from Stockton to Millerton, in southern Merced County(now Fresno Co.)and was part of the Joaquin Murrietta area of operation. It stayed out of the mountains for obvious engineering reasons and stayed off the valley floor because of the bogs and marshes. The railroad was built on the valley floor and the cities followed it, and not this simple byway. The road is now just the county line and a ranch road for us.
There is much written about the road on the web and on the nearby historic marker.
Our family has owned this property for over a hundred years.

Please be careful on this busy road! CHP is rampant! For a reason! Park near the marker, on the south side of the road. No need to cross any fences or cattle guards.
