Where Giants Dare to Cross Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

hsjb: I don't actually think that people are urinating on this cache, but I do believe it is constantly rained on and sprinkled on by sprinklers. The smell you are experiencing is likely rust from the magnet. As I do no have the time right now to improve this cache any further, I am going to archive it and let someone else take this spot.

Geocache Description:

This cache is at the Mountain View Transit center. It should be a very easy find.

This is the first cache in my "CRAZY traffic signage" series. I hope to place more soon.
If you know of some that around the Sunnyvale/Mountain View/Cupertino/Saratoga area, send me a private message.

This cache is so-named because of the bizarre pedestrian crossing signal you can see below. You need to see this signal in person to see what I mean. (You'll have to use your imagination with the picture):

The cache container is a magnetic key container with a little bit of room for trading small items.

I think I have a good idea why this particular pedestrian signal is so high but I'd like to hear your opinion. I believe, and several people have noted, it is to allow pedestrians to see it over a bus. I am not sure I buy that reason completely though. After all, if there's a bus there, you shouldn't be crossing anyways.

To log this cache, I ask that you share your reason why this signal is so high. Optionally, if you want to share a picture of someone standing near the signal that would be cool too.

STEALTH WARNING: Taxicabs often wait near this cache for commuters, so watch out for prying eyes. Also, Sunday mornings are the Farmers' Market and are probably not the best time to find this cache. However, if you are like me and go religiously to this AWESOME Farmers' Market, then I see no reason why you can't sneak in a cache as well!

You can meet one of the market celebrities, Pat O'Shea who once graced a VW ad in Gourmet Magazine:

Because of proximity to other caches, I needed to move the actual cache container a tad farther away from the crossing signal than I would have liked. I hope you still enjoy the hunt. The coordinates for this cache were measured with 11 foot accuracy.

July 16, 2007: Finally decided to change difficulty to 1.5 due to the muggle factor.
March 13, 2008: I'm lowering the difficulty again. It's so visible you'd have to be blind to miss it. (No offense to the sight-impaired)

May 11, 2008: I was at the Farmers Market and noticed that the cache was not in the correct place. It was out in the open and VERY obvious. I moved it back to the correct location. Please place the cache back where you found it.
