On the Mt Cass walkway, near Waipara, North Canterbury.
A 1.1 litre camo painted snaplock container has been placed near the top of the walkway, for the purpose of a nice 400m climb over 3.5km to the top of Mt Cass.
You can park your car at S43°04.911 E172°47.508, which is about 3.5km down Mt Cass road, from the SH1 intersection.
Mt Cass Walkway is a moderately steep 2-3 hour walk. It provides panoramic views, sweeping round from Pegasus Bay and Amberley in the south to Waipara Valley and Omihi areas in the north. There is a loop track around the top half of the walk.
The walkway is situated on Tiromoana Station, a 3500 hectare sheep and cattle farm owned by Transwaste Canterbury Ltd. Tiromoana Station is a working farm, so “Farm rules apply". The walkway will be closed every year at lambing time, usually for the months of August and September.
While most of the walkway is on a formed track, reasonable fitness levels are required.
