When
New York lost the "Logg Inn" cache, we thought it was the perfect
time to replace one kid-friendly cache with another. What you will
find in the southern part of Central Park represents several weeks
of thought and care on the part of the Munchkins. They diligently
scouted locations, prepared the container, selected and rejected
items for trade, debated an appropriate FTF prize and conducted
formal voting for the cache name. We can only hope that the Central
Park muggle gods will be kind to their little hearts. (Special
congratulations to EastVillageFamily for claiming the FTF!)
Nearby you'll find a nice sheltered gazebo where you may sit and
log your find while plotting the rest of the day. Head south to
explore 5th Avenue - Tiffany's, the Apple Store, dozens of other
ways to spend your money indoors? Or head north to find some of the
dozen-or-more free geocaches tucked away in various beautiful
corners of Central Park? An easy choice, isn't it?
This is a MASSIVELY muggle-rich area. There is a corollary to
the playground mantra we repeat with the Munchkins, "If you can't
see me I can't see you" - and that is "If you can see the muggles
they can see you!" You might be surprised how many muggles you can
see from here. Please take special care to be as unobserved as
possible, and please return cache precisely as you found it. A few
minutes of extra effort, or a willingness to come back to this
cache, may mean all the difference in the world.
A quick note about travel bugs and
geocoins... Snug as a Bug gets a *lot* of visitors - on
average, more than one per day - and a lot of the cachers are
visitors exploring far from home. Often a bug or coin gets dropped
off in the morning and is picked up again hours later, by someone
who may not be able to properly log the traveler out for a little
while. I do go through on a regular basis and clear the inventory
list of travelers that were dropped off more than two months prior.
But know that high-velocity caches like this may have inventories
that turn over more quickly than the online logs.
Also, keep in mind that this is a small container -
although the cache page may indicate a huge warehouse (as I write
this there are 21 trackables logged into the cache), the reality is
that there are fewer than 10 cubic inches of space to work with. So
be prepared for the possibility that not all of your trackables
will fit.
Snug as a Bug has been visited by cachers from all 50 states and
dozens of countries - we are happy to welcome all visitors to New
York!
