You definitely won't want to miss these two wonderful attractions! One is a fantastic tribute to a great man. The other attraction will bring a smile to your face and a crick to your neck! Great photo opportunities!
Cache site has been moved due to landscaping renovations. New site is wheelchair accessible, so please make sure container is within reach. Cache is easily accessed from alongside the wall - no need for cachers to walk into landscaped area.
Lots of tourist muggles at times, as well as some resident muggles. Camo plastic container. Please make sure container is not obvious when you leave.
NOTE: If you remove a trackable (Travel Bug, Geocoin, etc.) please delete it from the inventory list in the box to the right side by clicking on its name, then clicking on found it on the trackable page that will appear, and "retrieving" it. This will prevent it from being listed as missing and you can then drop it in another cache.
UPDATE: The "Happiness" part of this area, which had been scheduled for removal, has recently been approved to remain here, due to its popularity with tourists and locals alike. The current statue will be replaced with a bronze one painted to look the same but able to withstand the elements. The area around the statue will undergo some improvements also. The new statue and improved area are scheduled to be completed by Dec. 7, 2012.
UPDATE June, 2012: Hope is still here, but Happiness has temporarily left. When this cache was first placed, there was Happiness but no Hope. Then you could find both Hope and Happiness at this site. Now there is Hope but no Happiness.
The good news is that the money goal needed for the new permanent statue has been reached through the contributions of the public, a few very generous benefactors, and the Midway Museum. The target date for the return of Happiness is December 7, 2012, at an enhanced site just a few feet away from the original location. Until then we still have Hope...
Update: November 6, 2012: Happiness will continue to elude us a while longer. The good news is that the statue has been completed and is ready to be placed. The bad news is that the dedication date has been postponed. The new target date is February 16, 2013. The extension has to do with design details and preparation of the site.
Update: Valentine's Day, February 14, 2013: At last! Happiness is back! The dedication ceremony was on Saturday, February 16.
Update: February 4, 2018: The "Hope & Happiness" attractions have continued to be very popular. Unfortunately the geocache itself has had to be disabled for now due to the removal of bushes and groundcover at the nearby cache site. It looks to be a "work in progress" and we'll see what happens with the groundskeeping. The work does not interfere with visiting the attractions.
Update: January 20, 2019: We are changing the cache site somewhat (still in the general area - check new coordinates) in order to place a substitute cache. Unfortunately the previous area has not been replanted or improved upon in all this time. This has been a very popular site in the past, so we are trying out the substitute location. This is now a small magnetic cache.
