Geocache Description:

A Flash Mob Gathering of Geocachers. Only 15 minutes long!
Sunday May 20 at 11:00 to 11:15 CDT precisely.

This event is one of a series of flash mobs that are being synchronized to happen all at the same time across the country. See the “Flash Mob Cache Event” by iTrax and FoxTail (GC11ZBG).

You've heard of mega-events? This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. Flash mobs have gathered for other reasons (visit link) but never before for geocaching. Come be part of this historic event!

The event will last exactly 15 minutes, not one nano-second longer.

The event will begin precisely at 11:00 AM CDT on Sunday, May 20th. The event will be held at N40° 53.083 W096° 15.416. This the location of Wabash, between Lincoln and Omaha. The event will be highly organized (more or less) and facilitated by volunteers. A minute-by-minute itinerary of the event is below. We will also have printed copies of this ultra-precise itinerary distributed at the event.

In general: at exactly 11:00 AM CDT (as determined by GPS clock, of course) a bucket full of nice, new swag will be placed at the coordinates. One volunteer will hand out "log sheets". Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later become a log book), to qualify for attendance and drop them in a designated collection box. Bring your own writing instrument. Participants may trade swag via the swag bucket at any time. We encourage you to bring nice swag to trade. If any muggles are curious about the event we will have a volunteer hand out fliers that explain geocaching. Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log the event.

LIST OF VOLUNTEERS:
Bucket Watcher = Twinstars
Sound Recorder = Twinstars (recording will be sent to Podcacher for broadcast)
Logger = Contryguy
Photographer = Smithdk (photos will be sent to participants and to Podcacher for posting on website)
Food Service Managers = Hskrgal and Hskrguy
Music Maestro = Omaha
Information Manager = Sioneva

SCHEDULE:
Note: all times are GPS times . . . and AM (in the morning)

10:30 – Volunteers: Assemble.

10:45 – Participants: Mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle. Don't look like a gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can. This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of nowhere.

11:00 – Simultaneously:
1) Twinstars (Bucket Watcher) will walk to ground zero picnic table with a bucket of swag. This is the signal that the event has begun!
2) Contryguy (Logger) will walk to other end of ground zero picnic table and begin handing out log sheets.
3) Omaha (Music Maestro) begins awesome geocaching music
4) Smithdk (Photographer) will begin taking pictures of the event
5) Sioneva (Information Manager) will begin handing out schedules to participants.
6) Hskrgal and Hskrguy (Food Service Managers) will prep the Moon Pies and diabetic substitute for distribution. Doggie treats, too.
7) Participants fill out log sheets provided and drop them in the collection box. Bring your own writing instrument.

11:00 to 11:08 – Participants mingle, share stories, brag, trade swag, take pictures, sign the log (sheets), and CITO the local area!

11:06 – Hskrgal and Hskrguy (Food Service Managers) preps food and calls participants over to feeding area.

11:07 – Participants: Go over to the feeding area for the official "meal": Moon Pies, diabetic substitute and (for four-legged geocachers) doggie treats.
Photographer preps to take group photo.
Participants: Make sure to CITO your food wrappers. Some Moon Pie crumbs may be left on the ground for the local wildlife.

11:09 – All Volunteers prepare to rally everyone to photo area and help organize (sitting, squatting, standing, etc.) for group photo.

11:10 – Participants go over to the photo area and assemble FAST. Listen to the photographer for directions. Group photo(s) is taken.

11:14 – One minute warning is called "It is now 11:14!"
Participants: Prep to leave, but don't "look" like you are prepping. (You might want to "secretly" organize in advance where you will re-form after dispersal.)

11:15 EXACTLY – Participants: Wait for it ... then LEAVE the area (exactly at 11:15) and meet elsewhere if desired.
The bucket of swag will be packed up.
Left over Moon Pies and diabetic substitute will be removed.
The log sheet collection box will be slammed shut and sealed.
We will leave the area without a trace to go ... elsewhere.

There will be two or three new caches in the area on the 20th. Printed descriptions of these caches will be available along with the itinerary.

We hope to gather a "good showing" of cachers at this event. Tell your friends and help promote the event.

Note: Being a nano-town, Wabash does NOT have a downtown. There are no public restrooms in Wabash. However the metropolis of Elmwood is near by.
Second Note: OK. Technically Wabash is not a town, but officially (US Census Bureau) an unincorporated “populated place”.

We are going to need several volunteers to pull this off. If you are interested in helping e-mail me or state what you can do in your log or see me during Breakfast at the Moose (GCRYM1).

See you there!

May 6 update: Tweeked the coordinates to point to the “park”. Added list of volunteers and schedule. Noted that there will be new caches in the area.
May 7: update to some of the volunteer roles.
May 10 & May 11: update list of volunteers. Correct minor/major embarrassing typos.
May 13: descriptions of caches published just before the event will be available at the event.
May 14: update list of volunteers.

Check back occasionally, other updates will be posted from time to time.
