Geocache Description:

Have driven past this rather random sculpture or 2 several times having no idea what they are supposed to be,nice if someone can inform us.
Right beside the main road, take care where you park, especially if you have to cross the road to get to either of them.

Now thanks to Smoking Gun & others I can add this--

*Asked at the Info centre about sculptures and they told me: The entrance way sails were designed in2002 by Christopher Carey and Justin Murfitt to celebrate the cultural and historical life of Whangarei and welcome visitors to the city.
They represent both ocean-going waka, which brought the first people to these shores, and the modern yachts, which arrive from all over the world to stay in the Town Basin.
The woven construction of the sails, one of copper and one of totara, alludes to the richness and inter-twining of the two cultures, with references to punga tree sculptures in the mall and the native bush surrounding the city. The towering poles suggest the kauri spars of the district.
At night the sails are lit from underneath with red and green spotlights, indicating port and starboard, as viewed from both directions.
The jib forms are intended to escort the traveler, much like a pilot boat escorts vessels, one into the city and the other away from it.* quote from log from Smoking Gun---Thanks!

Cache is slightly away from the now known edifice,& is a small sistema container camoed black, contains a few rather random trade items, (running out) logbook, pencil.
