Easy little cache hidden near the West Portal Area.
West Portal is a prime shopping area for part of southwestern San Francisco, and it's also considered a neighborhood. Named for the western terminus of the Muni tunnel beneath Twin Peaks that opened on Feb. 3, 1918. The street (West Portal Avenue) and adjacent district is still dominated by the frequent trundlings of the three Muni Metro lines (K, L and M) that emerge from the subway to run in the street median. The ride in the subway from West Portal to downtown/Union Square is about fifteen minutes.
West Portal lies directly adjacent to several larger San Francisco neighborhoods. There are quiant little shops and cafes as well as restaurants and even a movie theatre. If you have not been here you should totally go see it.
The Twin Peaks Tunnel is a 2-mile (3.2 km) long subway tunnel in San Francisco, California, United States running under Twin Peaks. When it was opened in 1918, it was one of the longest subway tunnels in the world (Paris Métro's line 1, opened in 1900, beat it by a few miles, as did some of the London Underground lines).
It was the longest U.S. subway tunnel west of New York City. It is still the world's longest streetcar tunnel. It runs from the intersection of Market Street at Castro Street in the east to the West Portal neighborhood in the west.
The cache is a small altoids container hidden in West Portal somewhere...Please find it. You should be able to find this one quick. Original contents contained a mini Luke Skywalker, a turtle, a star patch, a Hello Kitty bracelet, a quarter, and some pizza magnets from a nearby pizza spot. You may have to be a little stealthy as there are usually many people around.
