Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden near the highest hill of Somogy county, but not on the top.

Szólád is a village near the lake Balaton, on the south side of it, in Somogy county. There are two interesting places near this village: more than 100 cellars in a 6-8 m high yellow-soil-wall, and a little look-out tower near the highest hill of Somogy. The cache is hidden near the tower, so it isn't necessary to find the cellars, but I think it will be worth your while to go there. In 1999 Szólád's cellars won the international Europe prize and the Henry Ford prize!

You can reach Szólád from the north. If you drive on the highway M7, you will see the sign, where you have to turn off. If you come from the road 7, you must turn south in Balatonszárszó.

If you want to see the cellars, you can park at coordinates N 46° 47.251' E 17° 50.598'.

But to find the cache, you must go further to south. There will be a sign, which says: "Nezde" is to the left. Turn there left and go to Nezde (that's the name of a part of Szólád).
There is an earthy path, which starts at coordinates N 46° 46.756' E 17° 52.185' and leads to the look-out tower. You can go up by car, but it is not recommended. It's better to go on foot. Along the way, you will see some interesting wooden statues and a big wooden crucifix called "Irma-kereszt", with the bird called "Turul" on its top. This is a mythologic bird of the Hungarians.

The hill is not too high, the difference between the starting point and the tower is about only 100 meters. From the tower, there is a beautiful panorama to the north, not only the village can be seen, but the lake Balaton and the hills on the other side of the lake too!
You can find the box near this tower.

Remark: The tower is not on the top. If you want to find the highest point of Somogy (called "Almán-teto"), go south from the tower 800 metres (But there is nothing interesting).

Have a nice stay.
