The building is a classic example of the Queen Anne style of
Victorian architecture, with many contemporary style trends from
America's eastern seaboard of the 1890's, combined with older
elements, such as large brackets and rounded windows reminiscent of
Italianate construction. From the time the property was homesteaded
in 1864, through the construction of most of the present building
from 1891-1895, the makeup of this elegant home is an excellent
representation of the evolution from the early western migration,
to settlement, and agricultural success, leading to eventual
prosperity, and later, decline and disrepair, followed by
restoration and reconstruction.
