Scotland’s own Manneken Pis, (like the bronze statue in Brussels)! I reckon this little boy tops up the loch when the level drops. Apparently there is also a little girl, Jeanneke Pis in Brussels, it defies belief really (Google it if you don’t believe me).
As I was zooming down the back road toward Luss I clocked this amazing little statue sitting in the loch out of the corner of my eye and just had to park up in Aldochlay and go back for a look.
The small plinth rising out of the water supports the statue of a small boy. A local myth suggests this commemorates the drowning of a child but in fact it was erected by William Kerr (an artist) in memory of his childhood spent in the area.
I reckon if he was any nearer Glasgow he would have a cone on his head!
The island behind the statue is Inchtavannach
In the bay at Aldochlay is Swan Island, a crannog. I know about crannogs but didn’t know there were any in Loch Lomond; this is one of at least 10. The cottage facing the bay is unreal!
The path back from the village is very narrow and the road is twisty so please watch the cars and tourist buses zooming by. The cache is on the other side of the road from the loch; you should be OK crossing here.
