A Mata foi criada em
1938 e, oferece excepcionais condições para a manutenção física,
recreio, cultura e lazer.
A sua área de 39 hectares,
corresponde à da antiga cerca do Convento de Cristo, tal como se
constituiu em 1530.
Era uma quinta agrícola e um
espaço reservado à clausura conventual, um local de tranquilidade e
recolhimento por excelência.
Desta quinta surgiu a Mata que
actualmente conhecemos, composta por um jardim formal de entrada e
muitos hectares de floresta.
O jardim formal é
constituído essencialmente por sebes talhadas e, organizadas em
talhões de forma geométrica.
Este jardim veio substituir as
hortas que ocupavam este vale húmido e fértil.
Patamares, alamedas e caminhos
sombreados, rasgam na aprazível mata de recreio, carreiras para
fontes, recantos e monumentos, que pontuam a exuberância da
vegetação.
Sinta o espírito dos
Cavaleiros Templários que habita nesta floresta.
Tenha atenção que, ao executar
uma busca mais cuidada, sujeita-se a encontrar o “Santo
Graal”...
Ao efectuar esta multi-cache
irá percorrer aproximadamente 3 Km.

É o primeiro reservatório de
rega do Aqueduto dos Pegões e, a Mãe de Água separadora das águas
destinadas ao convento.

Dirija-se à “Charolinha” (N
39º 36.072 W 008º 25.438)
A Charolinha lembra, pela sua
formae nome, a famosa Charola do Convento de Cristo.
É um pequeníssimo e, antigo
templo renascentista, da década de quarenta do Século
XVI.
Foi projectado por João de
Castro, arquitecto das obras do Convento entre 1515 e
1550.
A planta centrada deste
templo, corresponde a um ideal de forma perfeita, o círculo, muito
em voga na Itália dos Séculos XV e XVI.
Ao lado da Charolinha, existe
a única nascente que brota no interior da Mata, esta alimenta o
lago artificial onde está inserida a Charolinha.
A Charolinha destinava-se ao
refrescamento e, à meditação dos frades em deambulação pela cerca
conventual.

The Park was created in 1938
and offers exceptional facilities for physical fitness,
recreation, culture and leisure.
The area of 39 hectares, corresponds to the of the old
one around the Convent of Christ, as was constituted in
1530.
It was an agricultural farm and a space reserved to
the conventual closure, a local of tranquility and retreat by
excellence.
From this farm arose the
Park that we currently know, composed by a formal garden of
entrance and many hectares of forest.
The formal garden is
constituted essentially by geometrical fences
of bushes.
This garden
came to replace the agriculture fields that occupied this
humid and fertile valley.
Clearings, alleys and shaded walks cut through the
delightful woodland park.
There are paths to springs, secluded corners and
monuments, which punctuate the exuberant vegetation.
Feel the Templar Knight’s spirit that lives in the
woods.
Beware if you search too much, you may find the “Holy
Grail”...
To perform this multi-cache you'll cover around 3 Km
(1,86 mi).
Total distance covered depends on the chosen
intermediate tracks.

The
entry of the “Mata dos Sete Montes” is located at N 39º 36.089 W
008º 24.962
After entering the “Mata” go to the “King’s Chair”
(Cadeira d’El-Rei) (N 39º 36.196 W 008º 25.628).
It's the first watering pond of the “Pegões Aqueduct”
and the “Mother of Water” which channels water for use of the
Convent.

Find the underground “secret passage”.
About the “secret passage”:

Go to the “Charolinha” (N 39º 36.072 W 008º
25.438).
The "Charolinha" form and name remembers the famous
"Charola" of the Convent of Christ.
It's a very small and old Renaissance temple of
16th century forties decade.
It was projected by
João de Castro architect of the works of the Convent between 1515
and 1550.
The centred plant of this
temple corresponds to an ideal of a perfect form, the circle, very
popular in the Italy of the 15th and 16th
centuries.
Beside to “Charolinha”
there is the unique spring that sprouts in the interior of the Park
and it feeds the artificial lake around the
“Charolinha”.
To
“Charolinha” was used for refreshment and meditation of the
friars.
