Geocache Description:

THE ABOVE COORDINATES ARE FAKE. The cache is within 2 miles of those coordinates on a well established public trail system. Solve the puzzle to find the cache.

Sometimes I miss the obvious by not looking at the whole picture, or if the picture is of a cave, the ‘hole’ picture. It’s easy to become distracted by (or fixated on) some small detail like a mouse in one corner of a picture and I miss seeing the elephant right in the middle. I’ve got to learn to think outside the box.

As with most of my puzzles, this one is quite simple, once you see it. There is no higher math involved nor are any Google searches required, although they could distract you for quite some time.

The first picture with the neat little space creatures is from a decades old Netscape ad and reminds me of the ‘where’s Waldo’ books. I have no idea how many aliens you can count in that picture. I found it interesting that the creatures have only 2 toes but they have 4 fingers, like Mickey Mouse. I assume they’re small because of the size of the shoe but everything seems to be the correct scale, strange.

The weather map was one I saved from when I was working for the Mount Washington Weather Observatory one winter. Although the colors, lines, and little flags represent numerical values for wind direction, speed, and precipitation, what caught my eye was how much this picture looked like a squirrel (with argyle socks) that had been run over by a car. You can even visualize its heart as the purple blob near the lower middle part of the picture. I guess when you are confined in a small research facility on top of a mountain you have to amuse yourself. More info on ‘reading’ the weather map is available at:visit link, but it probably won’t help you find the cache.

Everything you need to solve this puzzle can be accessed in the pictures on this listing page with only 2 clicks of the mouse buttons. I’ve made both of the pictures large so you can check out the smallest detail if you feel it’s necessary.
