Note:
Please do not remove the sTeamTraen Coin from this cache. I
would like it to remain for all visitors to "discover".
Make sure to take a note of the letters and numbers printed at the
top of the log book - they will be used for a later
cache.
This is a traditional cache in the form of a 35mm film canister,
secured by a magnet. Too small for any swaps, but hopefully small
enough that it goes undisturbed except by those actively seeking
it.
Victoria Park information
Victoria park covers over 20 acres and contains a wide variety
of recreational facilities within an attractive landscape. There’s
plenty to do for all ages. An extremely popular playground and
paddling pool is the focus for children. The bandstand, bowling
green and floral displays may appeal to a wider audience.
A new statue of Billy the Seal has been installed next to the
paddling pool. Billy the Seal was accidentally caught off the Irish
coast in the net of a fishing boat in 1912, and presented to
Victoria Park little zoo, where he soon became the star attraction.
He famously escaped when the park was flooded in 1927 and was found
boarding a tram in Cowbridge Road. Billy died in 1939 and when his
body was taken to the National Museum it was discovered that Billy
wasn't a him, but a her!
This cache is only suitable for accessing during the daytime, as
the park is only open during daylight hours. The park usually opens
by 0730 and is locked approximately 30 minutes before the
nationally published sunset time for Cardiff. Closing times for the
park are published on the Cardiff County Council Website.
At the time of placing, the cache contains a pencil, but it's
probably a good idea to bring your own pen or pencil just in
case.
This cache has been placed with the kind permission of Cardiff
County Council Parks Service.
This cache is in plain sight in a
busy public park. Please be very careful and discrete when
retrieving and hiding the cache.
