This cache can be accessed by using the South Water Purification
road off of Minnesota Ave. The cache is a camo colored cannister
about twice the size of a 35mm film case. It contains a log, but no
pencil, so BYOP! There is a small FTF reward for the first child 12
or under to find.
Remember that this is a kid friendly series, so nothing
extraordinary here. Serious cachers will find a log, but not a
challenge. Enjoy the time with your children and cache on!
History of area: To the North of you is the Water Purification
plant for Sioux Falls. It was built in 1957 and has been upgraded
twice since then. The plant is designed to treat 54 million gallons
of water per day (or approximately 216 Olympic size swimming
pools.)
To the Southeast is the SD State Penitentiary. Land was
purchased in Feb. 1881 and the first prisoners arrived from
Michigan in Dec. 1882. The stone wall around the prison is 30 feet
high and 11 feet thick at its base. It was added in 1898. Up until
1989, the warden was required to live on prison grounds.
