Geocache Description:

Cache is about a 5 mile hike round trip, out and back.
Cache is located in Rutland, MA on a well hidden horse trail deep in the woods.

Park on Route 122 in Rutland. There is a small parking area on side of road on Northbound side of 122 where this hike begins. You will see signs in the parking lot for a rail trail, and also this hike travels along part of the yellow triangle blazed mid-state trail.

PRINT THIS OUT: Hiking directions: From Parking lot travel though the yellow gate through a wooded trail for about a quarter mile...follow yellow triangles. After about 10 minutes the trail will fork to the left and right, again, follow the yellow triangles which will take you to the left fork. Then, you will spill out onto an intersection of fire roads (dirt roads)...again, follow the road that the yellow triangles are on. After about 20 minutes the yellow triangle fire road will take you to another yellow gate..this gate is usually closed, but open or closed, go through this gate...the yellow triangles will still lead your way.....after passing this gate, the road will take you downhill....right before the road levels out again, there will be a wooded trail on your left....you will see a yellow sign on a tree that says "T3"...this is the horse trail so take this trail (you will now be leaving the yellow triangles which continue down the road)...Follow the wooded trail that stemmed off to your left, all the way to the cache...at one point the trail will come to what seems to be a dead end (you will see a yellow sign near a river that says NO HORSES) but if you look over your left shoulder, the trail continues back in the other direction...follow the trail in this direction..you will see blazes that say MDC horse trail along the way...after a very steep uphill section you will eventually come to a cross trail....go left at the cross trail, you will soon see another sign reading "T3"..at this point, check your GPS, the cache will be approaching..you will come to what seems like a small clearing in the trail (very small), but at this point, bushwack to your right down a steep incline to see a hidden pond...this is very steep, but anyone can do it....just be careful..the cache will be in this area....after finding the cache, retrace your steps back the way you came, back to your car.....90 mins round trip for most people.
