I 1869 kom jernbanen til Aalborg, dette fik kammerherren på
Birkelse Hovedgaard til arbejde for en jernbane til Fjerritslev. I
1874 lykkedes det kammerherren at samle så megen støtte til, at
bygge en jernbane nord for fjorden. At man afholdte et orienterende
møde på Hotel Phønix i Aalborg, her nedsatte man en komite der
skulle arbejde videre med planerne. I 1897 indviede man den
vestlige del af jernbanen mellem Fjerritslev og Frederikshavn via
Nørresundby.
På Ryaa station betjente man både Hjørring, Løkken – Aabybro
Jernbane og Fjerritslev – Frederikshavn Jernbane. De to jernbaner
var to uafhængige jernbaneselskaber, de enedes dog om at
samarbejde. Bl.a. var der skrevet i en kontrakt, at når der skulle
foretages togkrydsning i Ryaa, skulle togpersonalet fra begge
jernbaneselskaber være lige behjælpelige med udveksling af
passagerer og rejsegods!
1963 lukkede Hjørring, Løkken – Aabybro Jernbane, Fjerritslev –
Frederikshavn Jernbane kæmpede videre, men måtte give op i
september 1968. Politisk var stemningen for, at lukke alle de små
jernbaner. Den østlige del af Fjerritslev – Frederikshavn Jernbane
(Nørresundby – Frederikshavn via Dronninglund) var ikke rentabel og
det offentlige havde puttet mange penge i jernbanen. Den vestlige
del var meget mere rentabel, da den del af banen var blevet
forlænget i 1904 fra Fjerritslev til Thisted.
Det pudsige er at i dag ville Fjerritslev – Aalborg strækning
garanteret havde været en fordel for hele denne del af regionen og
kunne havde tjent som nærbane for pendlere til Aalborg.

In 1869 the railway came to Aalborg, this was chamber master at
Birke Manor to work for a rail to Fjerritslev. In 1874 they managed
chamber master to gather as much support to build a railway north
of the fjord. At their where held a briefing session at the Hotel
Phønix in Aalborg, here they set up a committee which would work on
the plans. In 1897 inaugurated the western railway between
Fjerritslev and Frederikshavn through Nørresundby.
At Ryaa station operated both Hjørring, Løkken - Aabybro Railway
and Fjerritslev - Frederikshavn Rail. The two railways were two
independent railway companies, however, they agreed to cooperate.
Notably was written in a contract that, when carried traincrossing
in Ryaa should train staff from the two railway corporations be
helpful to the exchange of passengers and luggage!
1963 closed Hjørring, Løkken - Aabybro Railway, Fjerritslev -
Frederikshavn Railway struggled on, but had to give up in September
1968. Political atmosphere had to close all small railways. The
eastern part of Fjerritslev - Frederikshavn Railway (Nørresundby -
Frederikshavn through Dronninglund) was not profitable and the
government had put a lot of money in railways. The West was much
more profitable, since the portion of the track was extended in
1904 from Fjerritslev to Thisted.
It is odd that today would Fjerritslev - Aalborg route had been
guaranteed a benefit of this whole part of the region and could
have served as near railway for commuters to Aalborg.

time and landscape," written by Arnold Andersen and published by
the publisher Nord - press.
