Frederik den 7.’s Kanal, som blev indviet den 13. juli 1861, blev gravet ud ved håndkraft, og jorden kørt væk i trillebør. Flere hundrede arbejdere, de fleste hentet hertil fra udlandet, arbejdede med kanalen i 5 år.
I året 1898/99 passerede det største antal skibe gennem kanalen, nemlig 2.923.
I 1913 blev kanalen lukket og ligger nu hen som en fredet idyl. Her er et rigt fugle- og planteliv.
Tæt ved kanalen er der i 1991 anlagt en dejlig badestrand. I 1942 fik Løgstør forbindelse med det nordlige opland ved Aggersundbroen.
Limfjordsmuseet ved havnen har bl.a. en stor samling fra sejlernes tid på Limfjorden. Lokaliteten er et vigtigt samlingspunkt for Limfjordens lystsejlere.

Parking area: N56.57.880 - E009.14.505 (from where you'll have to walk app. 2 kilometers to find the cache).
Frederik the 7th Canal runs from Løgstør to Lendrup and is 4 kilometers long.
The Canal was opened in 1861 and made it possible for the ships to pass by the shallow areas of the Limfjord around Løgstør. The Canal was in use until 1913 when a channel was dug out in the fjord making the canal obsolete.
The canal is no longer in use, but the entire area with the beautiful white buildings and the renovated draw bridge is a large attraction. The area is preserved and aside from the historic aspect, a trip along the canal offers a stunning view of the Limfjord and an incredible range of flowers along the canal.
The buildings on both ends of the Canal used to be homes of the manager and canal officer. Today, the main building is home to the Limfjord Museum.
