Tämän sarjakätkön ensimmäinen osa on (i) 3-osainen mittaustehtävä, jonka ratkaisu johdattaa (ii) perinteiselle kätkölle. Koordinaatit johtavat kevyen liikenteen alikululle toiminta-alueella.
The first part of this multi cache is (i) a 3-part measuring problem that leads you to (ii) a traditional cache. The coordinates lead you to an underpass for pedestrians in the area of action.

Tämä kätkö sijaitsee Joensuun läntisen sisääntuloväylän läheisyydessä. Paikassa ei maisemallisesti ole mitään ihmeellistä, mutta tämä kätkö on hyvä syy olla ajamatta Joensuun ohi. Samalla pääset tutustumaan Siilaisen-Pilkon takamaihin ja ehkä hieman unohdettuun paikallishistoriaankin.
(i) Alueella on Pietarin turvaksi Saksan hyökkäystä vastaan venäläisten kaivamia matalia taisteluhautoja. Erääseen niistä on haudattu venäläisiä sotilaitakin. Mittaustehtävän ratkaistaksesi sinun pitää löytää kolme umpeen kasvanutta taisteluhautaa, joiden sijainnit on ilmoitettu erillisinä reittipisteinä (Trench 1, 2 ja 3).
Merkitse kunkin taisteluhaudan pohjoisimman pisteen koordinaatit ja mittaa seuraavat lukemat:
1a: etäisyys (metriä) taisteluhaudan 1 alkupään ja loppupään välillä
1b: suuntima (asteina) taisteluhaudan 3 pohjoisimmasta pisteestä taisteluhaudan 1 pohjoisimpaan pisteeseen
2a: etäisyys taisteluhaudan 2 alkupään ja loppupään välillä
2b: suuntima taisteluhaudan 3 pohjoisimmasta pisteestä taisteluhaudan 2 pohjoisimpaan pisteeseen
3a: taisteluhauta 3 on kolmihaarainen, mittaa etäisyydet risteyskohdasta kaikkien kolmen haaran päihin ja laske etäisyydet lopuksi yhteen
3b: mittaa hehtaarin tarkkuudella sen kolmion ala, jonka kärkipisteet sijaitsevat taisteluhautojen 1, 2 ja 3 pohjoisimmissa pisteissä.

In English
This cache is located near to the western entrance of Joensuu. There is nothing special in the landscape, but this cache is a good reason not to drive by without entering the city. While visiting the cache you may also see the hinterlands of Siilainen and Pilkko and a little piece of almost forgotten local history.
(i) There are old trenches in the area, made by Russians to protect St. Petersburg against German invasion. In one of the trenches, there are some Russian soldiers buried. Currently, the trenches are growing shrubs and small trees. For solving the measuring problem, you need to find three of the trenches. The locations of the trenches are shown as additional way points.
At the trenches, mark the coordinates of the north most points of the trenches and measure the following values:
1a: the distance (m) between the starting and end points of the trench 1
1b: the bearing (in decrees) from the north most point of the trench 3 to the north most point of the trench 1
2a: the distance between the starting and end points of the trench 2
2b: the bearing from the north most point of the trench 3 to the north most point of the trench 2
3a: trench 3 consists of three branches; measure the distances from the fork to the end points of each branch. Finally, summarize the three values.
3b: calculate the area (with the accuracy of 1 ha) within the triangle having its vertices in the north most points of the trenches
During the winter, measuring may be impossible because of thick layer of snow. However, you can find the data required by browsing the literature describing the local history, e.g. Björn & Tuunainen (eds.). 2004. Noljakan Kirja. Siilaisen-Noljakan asukasyhdistys, Joensuu. 352 p. (in Finnish; the numbers are shown in a map and tables, so you may solve this problem without learning fluent Finnish...).
