Tri-State Meet, Greet, and Eat Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

captainmath: Thanks everybody who attended this series of dinners! We have a terrific group and I look forward to resuming these meetings in September. Like other monthly events, we'll have a new waypoint and page for the second year. Until then, cache on!

Geocache Description:

Next Meeting: Friday, May 9, 6pm, The Grill Restaurant

It's hard to believe, but this is already the last MGE before the big Tri-State Treasures Picnic! (There will be no MGE in June, but we hope everyone makes it out to Tri-State Treasures TWO! on June 29).

Tri-State Meet Greet and Eat is a monthly event held at the Grill Restaurant (formerly the Apple Grill) on Pennsylvania Avenue (routes 6 & 209) in Matamoras, just off Route 84 (exit 53). We've got the entire downstairs dining room to ourselves at 6:00pm. The Grill is offering our group another all-you-can-eat menu for $13, and that price includes everything except dessert - coffee/tea/soda, tax and tip is included. This will again be a great casual environment to kick back and relax. Just come out and enjoy chatting with other cachers. Bring your stories of caching adventures.

For those who would like to join us afterward, we typically have a night caching adventure with a new night cache posted for event attendees. If you want to join in the after-party fun, be sure to dress appropriately and bring a bright flashlight.

Family members and new cachers are welcome! Please log your intent to come and include the number in your party.

This month's menu: Roast Turkey and trimmings

PAST MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

May 9, 2008: While attendance was the lowest this month, we still had a great time enjoying a great roast turkey buffet with all the sides, maybe the best meal we've had yet. The cold, rainy weather wasn't optimal for caching, but that didn't stop anyone in this group from heading out to Shoob&Sheeb's newest night cache, Frog Trail Day and Night Cache.

Since this dinner was held on Mother's Day weekend, it was only fitting that the door prizes went to the mothers in attendance. It just so happened that both mothers in attendance had caching kids in attendance with them! Stellarscapes, mother of Stellar Jr., and Mrs. CaptainMath, mother of FirstMate_25 received gifts from Garmin. This was our last Tri-State MGE until at least August and possibly September, while we have our big picnic event on Sunday, June 29... Tri-State Treasures TWO! Hope to see you all there!

April 18, 2008: Another great time included new friends and old, including the return of Gilwell1 after his faster-than-expected recovery - great to see you back Barry! Attendees enjoyed beer-a repeat of the Grill's Chicken Parm and Penne a la Vodka, and Shoob&Sheeb again provided for our night caching entertainment with his Following Turkeys. After finding the night cache on a warm, moonlit night, everyone was just content to continue the social hour standing around deep in the woods chatting and having a great time!

March 14, 2008: We welcomed new friends from a wider range of places than ever before, including one all the way from Alaska. Our door prizes were all Alaskan coins and pins donated by LadyBugKids, and the game for the drawing featured Alaskan trivia. Attendees enjoyed beer-battered cod and pasta parmagiana, and Shoob&Sheeb provided for our night caching expedition with his Little pine @ SGL 209.

February 8, 2008: Just one month after we honored her daughter's 500th find, Stellarscapes was honored for scoring her 800th find at the event. The dinner featured giant hamburgers, hot dogs, and fixin's. The night crew headed up afterwards to find 3Bunts new night cache, Bear Night.

January 18, 2008: The first event of 2008 featured the honoring of two of our regulars hitting major milestones, both at the event. The January dinner was StellarJr's 500th and Shoob&Sheeb's 1000th, and both were honored with award ammo cans. The 26 attendees enjoyed the Grill's chicken fajitas and the return of our door prize giveaway. Afterwards, many of us did Shoob&Sheeb's new cache, Bog Monster (set up exclusively for this event as a night cache).

December 14, 2007: The 32 attendees at the Christmas holiday event had to sign our own yule-log cake before we cut it up for dessert. No problem - many raved about the roast beef and fixins served up by the Grill for our holiday buffet. Instead of receiving door prizes, this month we gathered canned goods and toys for the needy which were desperately needed by the Milford Food Pantry - thanks to all who donated! Afterwards the good will continued as we visited the home of Gilwell who is recovering from his broken leg. We sang Christmas Carols, grabbed the cache on his front lawn, and went after the night-cache version of Get Well Gilwell.

November 16, 2007: A nice mix of experienced and new cachers enjoyed all-you-can-eat fried chicken, potatoes, and fixin's. FirstMate ran the door-prize giveaway and saw many newbies take home prizes - can't wait to see the new hides! Afterwards many of the attendees formed a group hitting the local woods out after another JakeW night cache, jakewilliams3's Find-A-Cache.

October 19, 2007: Participants braved the storm to join us for our first all-you-can-eat buffet dinner of chicken parm, pasta, etc. More door prizes and giveaways included a copy of Delorme's Topo 6 East, unactivated geocoins, a compass, and more. Afterwards over 20 cachers got soaked in the pouring rain and mist while braving the haunted woods searching for JakeW's, Haunted Knights.

September 14, 2007: Our first event of the series had approximately 40 attendees. Door prizes and giveaways included gifts from Garmin, Buji, WorldCaching, CoinsAndPins, and Gilwell1 won a free registration for GSAK software. A special giveaway were the Tri-State Meet, Greet, and Eat wooden nickels provided by Geocoins.net. An estimated 18 people went out after dinner to do Shoob&Sheeb's night cache, Night Time at SGL 116.
