This cache has been archived.

SUp3rFM: Esta cache foi arquivada por falta de uma resposta atempada e/ou adequada perante as situações relatadas. Relembro a secção das guidelines sobre a manutenção http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=307#maint :
You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time – normally a few weeks – in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing.

Because of the effort required to maintain a geocache, we ask that you place physical caches in your usual caching area and not while on a vacation or business trip. It is best when you live within a manageable distance from the cache placements to allow for return visits. Geocaches placed during travel may not be published unless you are able to demonstrate an acceptable maintenance plan, which must allow for a quick response to reported problems. An acceptable maintenance plan might include the username of a local geocacher who will handle maintenance issues in your absence.

Obrigado

Geocache Description:

CA #1 Quayside CA #2 Castle CA #3 Torch CA #4 Beach CA #5 Sant'Ana

In the coordinates given you will find (the place where to search should be pretty obvious once you get there) the written coordinates of the final container.

Alternatively, the final coordinates may also be found inside the shack which serves as a bird's observation spot (waypoint “Bird’s Observation Spot”, given bellow); if it’s your first time in Salir for a while you are advised to go there too anyway since the surrounding area has recently been subjected to great improvements and promises a very pleasant walk.

To get to either of the initial spots you can leave your vehicle in the “Parking” given has an additional waypoint bellow; otherwise, walking there by foot from S. Martinho is the best way (aprox. 1,5 Km - 15 min.).

Try to do this cache during the High Tide period (check a tidal table here >>); with the water up the place looks more impressive.

:: Salir

The current bay of S. Martinho is the last vestige of an ancient Golf which, until the 16th century, extended itself inwards to Alfeizerão. It opens to the ocean through a small mouth, around 180 meters large, between the hills of Santana, to the South, and the Lighthouse, to the North (check the photos below).From the top of the belvederes of Facho and Cruzeiro, near the Chapel of Saint Anthony, it is a pleasure to take a look at the bay coloured by the typical yellow fishing boats and by the silvered track of small recreational ones.

On the Southern part of the Bay, where the river Tornada meets the sea, Salir originates in an ancient harbour, actually pre-dating in time both São Martinho and Portugal as a country. Among the interest points it offers are the Chapel of Sant'Ana (see the coordinates in the additional waypoints), the ruins of the ancient Customs House, the sweat Mineral Water Spring pouring from a tube out of the salted sea water, the huge 50 meters tall sand dune and the recently rehabilitated estuary and surrounding dunes featuring a rich and picturesque flora and fauna.

Junta de Freguesia de Salir do Porto >> (Portuguese - offers a very complete account of Salir's History)

This cache is part of five integrating the “Concha Azul” (Blue Shell) series, placed around the bay of S. Martinho do Porto.
